‘Functional Art’ is the inspiration behind this handmade, versatile piece. It functions as chess or draughts table with detachable legs which allows the top to be used as an ottoman tray or a piece of wall art.
Made from American Walnut, Scottish Elm, bog oak and resin. The checker squares are made with beautiful burr Elm and white resin.
The ‘playing’ surface is framed with Fenland Bog Oak – which has lain Fenland bogs for thousands of years!
Green and gold resin surrounds the playing surface (other colours are available by commission)and American Walnut has been used to make the tray sides.
The chess board squares are 50mm and create a substantial playing surface – capable of accommodating the largest tournament size chess pieces.
Four layers of heat resistant resin have been applied to create a smooth ‘watery’ finish and protect the surface from drinks (up to 80°C) when used as an ottoman tray.
The cross-legs are made from American Walnut and can be purchased glued or as a ‘slot-together’ assembly, secured with a steel pin.
A concealed securing bracket which is capable of holding a weight of more than 12kg is used to hang the item on a wall.
