Chess Board Ottoman Tray

‘Functional Art’ is the inspiration behind this handmade, versatile piece. It functions as chess/draughts board and can also be used as an ottoman tray or be hung as wall art.

Made from American Walnut, Scottish Elm, bog oak and resin. The checker squares are made with beautiful burr Elm and white resin.

The ‘playing’ surface is framed with Fenland Bog Oak – which has lain Fenland bogs for thousands of years!

Black and gold coloured resin surrounds the playing surface (other colours are available by commission) and American Walnut has been used to make the tray sides.

The chess board squares are 50mm and create a substantial playing surface – capable of accommodating the largest tournament size chess pieces. (Boxed counters and chess pieces can be bought or commissioned separately).

Four layers of heat resistant resin have been applied to create a smooth ‘watery’ finish and protect the surface from drinks (up to 80°C) when used as an ottoman tray.

This is a substantial piece of functional art that weighs around 8kg.

All exposed wood surfaces have been finished with hard wax oil.
