From City to Country...

Having spent most of my career working in Marketing for large corporates, I reached a point like many of us do, where I wanted to take back control and step away from the treadmill. I’ve always enjoyed working with wood and DAMA Designs is my way of taking a passion for woodwork and turning it into more than just a hobby. The name DAMA comes from my Anglo-Nigerian name Daramola-Martin (but that’s another story for another time!).
All my items are bespoke and of course, handmade. I specialise in making furniture, homeware and wall decor for the home which I describe as ‘functional art’. I use hardwoods that have been sustainably grown in England and Scotland and sourced from a local Sussex based wood yards.
A project begins by sourcing timber that has interesting grain, colouration and good wood working properties. Only then do I design and craft a fitting piece  to bring out the qualities of the wood. Where other materials, such as resin, complement the design, I will include these modern materials to create a genuinely unique handcrafted contemporary piece of functional art.
I take commissions and will work with you to design a bespoke piece of furniture to fit a special place in your home. Feeling involved in the process adds another dimension in commissioning a bespoke item and if it is practical to do so, I will encourage you to come with me to the wood yard and help select the wood for your project.
If you have a project in mind, why not give me a call…
We have a wide collection of our work at The Barn Emporium.
